I grew up in the small town of Danby, VT for the first 18 years of my life, and joined the U.S. Army as a cavalry scout in 1999 and returned home in 2002 with several medals of good service.
After the service I embarked on a rodeo career after I was able to walk again from injuries sustained in battle, and became a Pro and Amateur Bull Rider and a Bareback Rider.
I has since retired the rodeo although you still find me behind the chutes with the younger guys to lend a helping hand.
I began writing at the age of 13 , back then it was just something to channel my thoughts, but in 2010, I decided to do something with my writing, self-publishing my first book. In 2011 I followed Pages Full of memories with a book of short stories co-written by 8 of my rodeo pals about our wrecks and rides in the rodeo.
I have achieved a Editor’s Choice award in Poetry, and I plan to continue my writing. I am a Western Genre, Fiction and Historical Fiction writer, with my first novel in the works called Laramie’s Thunder.

Your journey sounds interesting, Ritchie. Especially as you found the Old West while living in Vermont, about as east as someone can get in the Lower 48.
Best of luck with your writing, and thank you for your service to your country and to the rest of us.

If I had a nickel for every old codger who’s stopped at my book-signing table, glared at me, and declared, “I only read Louis L’Amour,” I could give up this writing deal and retire to the Bahamas. But then again, I don’t like the Bahamas. Not too strong at all – I like it, and you nailed it via Facebook from- Western Author J.R. Sanders.
